Summer Community Arts Project for Children a success Posted On 10 September 2021

The Friends of Leigh Library Gardens has claimed that the project, having taken place over the summer holidays, has proven to be a well-read success

The Friends of Leigh Library Gardens began a collaboration with Create98, on the heels of having received a grant from Leigh Town Council. Together, during the summer holidays they hosted a free community arts event for local children to enjoy.

Inspired by themes of nature, kids were encouraged to paint designs of the great outdoors onto tiles, each and every Wednesday throughout the month of August. The work will be mounted on boards and then displayed in the Leigh Library Gardens in September.

All sessions were fully booked and extra spaces were made available for budding artists who turned up on the days of the event.

A spokesperson for Friends of Leigh Gardens said: “A huge thank you to Create 98 who volunteered their services, along with the Friends of Leigh Library Gardens, to put on this popular event. Thank you also to all the children of Leigh who took part.

“Look out for the installations, which will be in place in Leigh Library Gardens in the coming weeks.”

Friends of Leigh Gardens is a local community volunteer group who, working with the Southend Parks team, aim to bring the glory days back to these well-loved gardens of Leigh.

Do you love Leigh Library Gardens? Do you want to help the park look its best with some community gardening work? The next few meetings with the Parks team at Southend Borough Council and volunteers for the projects will take place as follows:

Wednesday 12th September.

Saturday 15th September.

All running from 10:00 to 11:30 at Leigh Library Gardens, and everyone is welcome!
