Leigh author launches new novel Posted On 23 April 2021

Charlotte Northedge, a writer from Leigh, will have her first book, The House Guest, published on May 13th

Harper Collins Publishers will publish The House Guest for Charlotte Northedge. Charlotte has previous written for various women’s magazines, and is also currently the joint editor of Guardian Review and Head of Books for the Guardian.

She has been working on her debut novel for the past decade and a half, having really got her teeth into it after relocating to Leigh from London.

The House Guest has been described as: “a psychological thriller about motherhood, lies, and betrayal, which perfectly balances tension and complex, compelling characters in a gripping and emotionally persuasive narrative that will find the reader racing to the finish.”

Plot synopsis from Waterstones:

When Kate, the book’s main character, moves to London after the disappearance of her sister, she’s in need of a friend. A chance meeting leads Kate to Della, a life coach who runs support groups for young women, dubbed by Kate as ‘the Janes.’

Della takes a special interest in Kate, and Kate soon finds herself entangled in Della’s life – her house, her family, and her husband. It’s only when she realises that she’s in too deep that Della’s veneer begins to crumble, and the warnings from ‘the Janes’ begin to come true.

Why is Della so keen to keep Kate by her side? What does Kate have that Della might want? And what really lies beneath the surface of their friendship?
